TIPS FOR DIVORCING PARENTS – GET A PARENTING PLAN IN PLACE
Get a Parenting Plan in place as soon as possible for the care and contact of your children and/or their maintenance which is in accordance with the children’s best interests. An early Parenting Plan helps take out most of the issues in the divorce and separate it out from the other aspects of the divorce which are unresolved, making it easier for you to take a more cost-effective approach to discussing settlement of the divorce.
Your attorneys can prepare this, or you can both attend upon the offices of a suitable psychologist and/or mediator who can assist you with preparing this, or you can approach the Family Advocate’s Offices for an enquiry for a report to be made with their recommendations as to what will be in the best interests of the children. Please note that there can often be a long waiting period for when an enquiry by the Family Advocate’s Offices can be held.
